PITA is planning a reorganization of the listings for the resources in this section that will better serve visitors and the resource providers listed here. No date is set for completion of the project, and its implementation will be announced through our Resources Updates service, newsletter and on this site.

  1. Amherst Writers & Artists (Amherst, MA) For twenty-three years it has offered creative writing workshops and writers' retreats for both established and beginning writers in affiliated workshops across the U.S. Now they are also offered in Ireland, Mexico, Peru, and on the Isle of Iona.

  2. The Attic - (Portland, OR) Offers writer's workshops for small groups.

  3. Asian American Writers' Workshop - (NYC) Provides information about workshops and writer development and advancement events.

  4. Bay Area Fiction Workshop - (San Francisco, CA) Michelle Richmond offers fiction writing workshops that cover characterization, dialogue, and point of view.

  5. Boston Screenwriting Workshop - (Boston, MA) Offers classes for beginning to professional screenwriters in the New England area.

  6. Boston West Writing and Photography - (Wayland, MA) Lists of workshops and services in writing, photography, and publishing offered in the Boston area.

  7. Brand New Writers - Information on London (England) area workshops, a writing guide, a feedback forum for submitted work and other features.

  8. The Callaloo Creative Writing Workshops, are designed to assist new and developing writers by providing intensive and individual instruction in the writing of fiction and poetry. Students and faculty will live and work together for the duration of the two-week workshops, as well as meet in groups for three hours each day and in individual conferences when necessary. The poetry workshop will admit ten applicants, but the fiction workshops will admit only six. The workshops, along with required books and supplies, are free to all participants, but participants will be responsible for their travel and board.

  9. Cave Canem - (NYC and Minneapolis -St. Paul, MN) Committed to the discovery and cultivation of new voices in African American poetry, Cave Canem's program includes an annual summer workshop/retreat, regional workshops, a first book prize, annual anthologies, and readings and events in major cities around the United States.

  10. Centauri Arts - (Kawarthas, Canada) Residential Creative Writing or Fine Arts Courses. Each course includes structured daily workshops as well as one-on-one.

  11. Children's Authors Bootcamp - (Denver, CO and Ft. Lauderdale, FL) Traveling two-day workshops for children's book writers presented by children's writing experts Laura Backes and Linda Arms White.

  12. Clarity Works Writing Classes and Coaching - (Asheville, NC) Writing teacher helps each student free her or his writing voice. In this container — whether it's a class, workshop, retreat or individual session — each person feels nurtured and safe, allowing her to risk revealing the complexity and fullness of her experience—her story. Held in Asheville, North Carolina plus online.

  13. *Cleveland State University Poetry Center* (Cleveland, OH) conducts a Poetry Forum on the first Friday of each month during the academic year. These workshops are free and open to the public. Visitors are welcome. Each forum is held on Friday evening at 7:00 PM in the Trinity Cathedral, 2230 Euclid Avenue, lower level.

  14. Create a Kids' Book - (Melbourne, AU) Delightful website for writers of children's books. Holds regular monthly workshops in Victoria, Australia. Also offers manuscript assessment service for children's books.

  15. Creative Journeys - Writing Workshops for Women - (Nehalem, OR) Retreats and resources for women writers in a small group setting. Techniques and exercises designed to bring your stories to life.

  16. Creativity Workshop - (NY City; Crete; Florence, IT; Provence, FR; Barcelons, SP; Prague,CK; Paris, FR; Dublin, IE; Venice; IT) Helps develop the creative process through memoir, creative writing, visual arts and storytelling exercises. Helps to expand perception and find ways of looking at one's life and work as exciting and transformative.

  17. *Cynthia Gallaher's Creative Writing Workshops* - () Trainer's page offers workshops at Midwestern library, school or arts organizations. Includes poetry writing, journal writing, nature writing, and children's workshops.

  18. *DFW Writers' Workshop* (Euless, TX) Multi-genre workshop meets weekly, new & experienced writers welcome

  19. *Editing International, LLC* - (US and British Columbia) "Passport Seminars" covering editing/revision, marketing, fiction and nonfiction craft, planning, brainstorminbg, and the writer's life.

  20. Elizabeth Ayers Center for Creative Writing - (Montauk, NY, Abiquiu, NM and on-line) Offers writing workshops, writing retreats, fiction workshops, and poetry workshops.

  21. *Field's End* - (Bainbridge Island, WA) A writers' community on offering workshops, lectures, and courses for literary writers.

  22. Grub Street, Inc. - (Boston, MA) Founded by writers for writers, Grub Street is Boston's only independent writing center. Our goal is to help writers with all aspects of the writing life, from finding inspiration to marketing a finished work. Grub Street offers high-quality workshops, events and professional development opportunities for writers of all levels.

  23. *Herstory Writers Workshop* - (Long Island, NY) A nonprofit memoir writing project for women. Herstory reaches out to give narrative tools to women who might not ordinarily have access to high quality writing instruction. Partially tuition based and partially publicly funded, it is dedicated to women who feel they have stories to tell.

  24. *Heartland Writers Guild* - Sponsors the biennial Heartland Writers Conference and "Great Beginnings" Writing Competition. HWG is a not-for-profit multi-genre organization devoted to giving its members tools to successfully market their writing.

  25. *The Houston Writers League* - a nonprofit, tax exempt corporation organized to provide a professional atmosphere for serious writers. Offers workshops, regular meetings with knowledgeable guest speakers, programs, seminars and conferences, community outreach projects that promote writing and literacy and an online forum.

  26. *Hudson Valley Writers Guild* - (Albany, NY) Offers courses and workshops for member writers.

  27. Information for Writers and Authors - (GB) Extracts and details of creative writing courses in GB, an online writer's workshop and other features.

  28. Inkberry - (North Adams, MA) Offers writing workshops, a reading series and writing resources. Inkberry is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the literary arts in and around Berkshire County. Massachusetts.

  29. Inprint Inc. - (Houston, TX) NPO that works to support the writers of the Houston literary community through grants, workshops, and readings.

  30. In the Company of Poets - (Philadelphia, PA) Offers Poetry classes and workshops.

  31. *The Johnnie Harris Writers* - (Houston, TX) The basic goal of the Johnnie Harris Writers is to give students, faculty, administrators and alumni an opportunity to share their writings and/or critique the works of others.The organization's secondary goal is to benefit the community by regularly sending members of the organization out to participate in community literacy projects.

  32. *Laguna Writers* - (San Francisco, CA) - Bay Area writing workshops using the Amherst Writers and Artists method, which focuses on spontaneous writing exercises. Short stories, novels, essays, memoirs, poetry.

  33. *La Joie D'Ecrire* - (Europe) The Joy of Writing. Annual travel writing workshop during May in south of France.

  34. Liberato - (Gibberd, Polsted, Leiston, UK; Greece ) Writing courses and editing services. Courses, critiques and workshops offered through a postal critique, a Polstead weekend, a Greek week (or two), a Leiston week or a day spent in the unique surroundings of the Gibberd Garden.

  35. The Loft Literary Center - (Minneapolis -St. Paul, MN) The Loft Literary Center is now the nation's largest and most comprehensive literary center, offering: creative writing classes and workshops, including classes in poetry, short story, memoir, fiction, working with agents, submitting to publishers, and many other topics and genre that are geared to a range of interests and are designed for writers at all levels of development; mentoring programs that have included guidance from former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Cunningham, memoirist Maxine Hong Kingston, and many more; grant and award programs for Minnesota writers; special presentations by Minnesota writers; writing competition and readings. Tuition is based on a sliding fee scale, with both scholarship and work-study opportunities available. The Loft also offers a variety of programs for both children and teens.

  36. Log Cabin Literary Center - (Boise, ID) - A nonprofit membership organization. The mission of the Log Cabin Literary Center is to inspire and celebrate a love of reading, writing and discourse. Our existence strives to encompass the entire writing process, from developing students’ reading and writing proficiency to honing seasoned writers’ technical and creative expertise.

  37. Manitoba Writers' Guild - (Winnepeg, MB, Canada) A nonprofit organization that offers a number of services and programs to writers.

  44. New Mexico Poetry Tangents - (Albuquerque NM) - NM Poetry Tangents is a casual, free workshop and poetry coalition, where the poetry community scrawls thunder, sharing feedback and shop-talk.   46. New Zealand Book Council - Offers information on Book News, Writers in Schools, Trans-Tasman Exchange, Book Group Resources, Words on Wheels, Book Events, Events, Calendar, Literary Tourism, Book Awards, Writing Courses, 'How To' Pages, and Book Links.

  47. *New Zealand Poetry Society* - NZPS serves its national membership with a monthly newsletter, holds monthly meetings, acts as a clearing house for competition information, runs an International Poetry Competition and publishes an anthology of entries from the contest, runs an annual Poetry Workshop with an established poet as guest tutor, and organises occasional tours of local and of overseas poets.
