Writers at Work Fellowship Competition
W@W offers an annual Fellowship
Competition for emerging writers in the fiction, nonfiction, and
poetry genres. Winners are honored
with cash prizes, publication opportunities, etc.
Prizes:
Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry
- First Prize in each category: $1,500, publication in
Quarterly West (subject to editorial guidelines), a featured
reading at the 2004 conference, tuition for a free afternoon
session package at the W@W conference (value can be applied
towards the full conference tuition), a manuscript consultation
during the conference with one of the visiting publishers or
agents, and free housing.
- Honorable Mention in each category: tuition for free
afternoon session package (value can be applied towards the
full conference tuition), and a manuscript consultation during
the conference with one of the visiting publishers or agents.
Eligibility:
- Any writer who has not yet published a book-length volume
of original work in the genre in which they submit a manuscript.
- Unpublished work only.
- Previous winners are not eligible in the genre in which they
have won.
- Board members are prohibited from submitting manuscripts during
their tenure on the board.
Deadlines:
Entries must be postmarked no later than March 1.
Guidelines:
Fiction: Short story/novel excerpt (adult fiction only)
- 5,000 word / 20-page maximum / unpublished
- Double spaced
- One work per entry
Literary Nonfiction:
- 5,000 word / 20-page maximum / unpublished
- Double spaced
- One work per entry
Poetry:
- Six poems / 10-page maximum / unpublished
Each Entry Must Include:
- $15 reading fee for each entry
- Each entry must be mailed separately
