Membership Organizations
The Albany Poets state that their purpose is simple...promote poetry, poets, and the community we have here in Albany. They post a calendar of events and other information for the Albany poetry community, calls for submissions to be featured on the Web site, provide tutorials, a BBS, and resource listings for some significant literary Web sites.
The Austin Poetry Guild meets for the discussion of poetry issues and review of its members' works. We publish a journal of poetry by members, The Glass Eye, biannually. Membership application information is available on site.
Located in the Lone Star State's capital, the Austin Poetry Society is the local chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas, and is an outstanding resource for area poets
Committed to the discovery and cultivation of new voices in African American poetry, Cave Canem's program includes an annual summer workshop/retreat, regional workshops, a first book prize, annual anthologies, and readings and events in major cities around the United States. The site includes an extensive listing of poetry sites and resources as well.
Heartland Writers Guild – Sponsor of the biennial Heartland Writers Conference and "Great Beginnings" Writing Competition, HWG is a not–for–profit multi–genre organization devoted to giving its members tools to successfully market their writing. Their website features RealAudio highlights and photos from prior conference workshops as well as links to writing resources.
Chartered in 1991 to encourage the crafting and enjoyment of poetry in the state of Illinois, the Illinois State Poetry Society has published member poems on its Web site since 2000, and the organization welcomes new members from anywhere. They also list several poetry organizations and resources of interest to Illinois poets.

The Writers' League of Texas promotes the art of writing by supporting writers in their artistic and professional goals. With over twelve hundred members, the Writers' League of Texas is the second largest regional writing group in the nation.
- WLT works as the Texas Commission on the Arts' Statewide Service Organization partner in the literary arts. Writers hoping to find beginning, intermediate or advanced instruction on writing fiction and nonfiction can turn to a number of weekend conferences, as well as informal classes and workshops held throughout the year, and a number of small, friendly study groups.
- WLT's annual Agents! Agents! Agents! Conference, generally held in July, is the only one of its kind in the country. Each year the Writers' League of Texas sends its established authors to the far corners of the state to share their experiences with writers and readers in other towns.
- The Texas Literary Touring Program is sponsored by the Texas Commission on the Arts and has is a successful outreach program from the heart of Texas.
- Published authors who are League members have a chance each year to compete for the coveted $1,000 Violet Crown Award, presented to one writer in fiction, one writer in prose, and one writer in nonfiction for outstanding work, as well as the Teddy Award for the outstanding published children's book.
- The Texas Writer is a monthly newsletter with tips on writing and finding markets for writers. It surveys the writing scene and provides the latest gossip on who is selling and who is buying. The 12–page publication provides information on the League's on–going projects and announcements, and seeks submissions of essays and poetry for publication.
- Members can now also get updates on late breaking WLT events by subscribing to Footnotes, a free weekly electronic bulletin.
- For the next generation of writers, the League sponsors children's workshops and writing camps for young people from Kindergarten to 12th grade at local schools. Students are also honored for their contributions each year with the annual Young Texas Writers Scholarships.
The League also maintains a resource center with over fifteen hundred titles on writing and publishing, literary journals and screenplays.
