A Pound of Flesh
It only took a pound of flesh
though I haven't much to lose.
I carved it out in neat design
with deft precision, expert lines.
It bled a little,
but it warmed my hands,
cleansed them for molding
the earthen piece.
It only took a pound of flesh
for the poem to be born.
One only bares a little bone
to air the woman out.
If you listen close enough
you might see
the pieces of image
that make up me.
A poet is a liar
by sheer necessity.
Without a little stretch
there isn't much to see.
It only took a pound of flesh
to sculpt the perfect form,
to weave the wordy tapestry
that salts the wounds
that identify me,
to tear tough skin back
for all to see.
It only took one tiny death
for the poem to be born.
Oh, that I die a thousand more.

Thanks for the newsletter.
One minor typo.
You gave the wrong email address for aipf
it's aipf_at_aol.com
I'm sure you know that, but
a "t" worked its way into where
it should not "b"

Dear Stayza,
That is one cool email message! Believe it or not I had two volunteers
who had promised something like that for aipf but it never panned out.
Thanks for the aipf bit and enjoyed the poet in there at the end.

Stazja,
Thanks for adding me to the APAL mailing. Appended here is my latest
consolidation of poet mailing lists in the area...for your use. Am sure
there are some dead addresses and some will want to be removed from the
list, but it's mostly a good list of Austin area poetry-lovers. Keep me
informed of any new names and I'll add them to my list. Will do same
for you.

Hi there! I enjoyed the newsletter informing me of poetry goings-on. One
piece of poetry news that you may want to include next week:
The Electric Lounge (302 Bowie) is now hosting a WEEKLY open mic every
Tuesday, 8 p.m. Standard open mic etiquette (e.g. signing up) applies.
Gen's poetry slam is still running like clockwork, and is the LAST
Tuesday
of every month. On these evenings, the slam replaces the open mic, but
all
poets are invited to slam for the $50 cash prize.
Hope this is helpful.

I'm not sure who gave you my e-mail address-- but I can't handle any
more newsletters at this time. So thank you, but no thank you, please
don't send me any more.
Thanks.

YAY!! I'm sooooo x-cited I finally have info about poetry readings _at_
coffee shops etc. in Austin! Yahooo......This is absolutely fabulous.
Now I am quite a young poet--only 15, but I've been known to produce
some pretty amazing stuff. I can't wait till I can drive so I can meet
some people and cultivate some friendships with people who dig the
poetry scene! ; ) Sincerely----->HAYLEY

BROWNISH RED LEAVES FLOATING ONTO ME
E PLUBERIS I'D PRESUME SINCE MANY ARE STILL TIGHT
LOOKING AT SEVERAL I FOUND NO TWO WERE ALIKE
SORTA LIKE HUMAN FACES ARE NEVER THE SAME
AS THEY BEGIN TO AGE AND GROW WITH PAINS,
LESSENED EXPECTATIONS OF LUXERY AND FAME,
EACH LEAF HAS IT'S ASSIGNED TIME TO FALL
IN CADENCE PROVIDED BY MOTHER NATURE'S CALL
RATHER SAD WHEN REALIZE ALL THE WORK SHE DID
TO RAISE THESE TRTEES FROM JUST A KID!!
